On September 28, 1939 a rosy beautiful girl was born to David Wooten McGrady and his wife Marjorie Ann in Savannah, Georgia. She was named after her mother and joined her big sister Barbara Jean making the family complete. Marjorie was an active intelligent girl who grew into a talented and creative woman.
While she was a young teen she studied dance under Betty Douglas at the Marilyn Youmans dance studio. She was fabulous on the dance floor too frequently hosting informal dances in her parents garage. She attended frequent school and JROTC dances as well. This bright girl was a believer too, having accepted Jesus as her personal Savior at Emmanuel Baptist Church when she was 6 years old. She attended many local Protestant churches wherever she lived. Marjorie and many of her friends and family recall many summer days bathing on Savannah beaches, tanning and having the time of their lives. Marjorie graduated from Savannah High School in June of 1957. Her first job was at the phone company. She held many jobs throughout her life such as Mary Kay Consultant, Mother, Salesperson, Insurance adjuster, 7-11 manager, Exterminator, Grocery clerk, Ceramic Artist, Real Estate agent and Hobby Shop owner. Many of her jobs she worked simultaneously to make ends meet.
In her later years she cared for elderly patients and managed storage facilities. When she retired, she had truly earned her rest. In 1962 she met her husband Bennie Blankenbeker and together they raised 4 children and lived together through 60 years of marriage enjoying numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren until Bennie's death in April of 2023.
Marjorie loved the Lord, singing hymns, traveling, and celebrating family time. Before becoming disabled, Marjorie was a talented cook, and loved to entertain. When she died suddenly on Sunday, October 27, 2024 she left a large hole in our family. She is survived by her son, Douglas Blankenbeker, (Adela), Fernandina Beach, FL her son, David Blankenbeker, (Barbara), Fayetteville, GA her daughter Teresa O'Donnell, (Jim), Columbus, GA and her son Robert Blankenbeker, (Sherri), Euharlee, GA.
