Martha Ann Greene of Columbus, GA was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She passed away on March 9, 2026, at the age of 83. Born April 20, 1942, in Columbia, South Carolina to the late, Thomas Barnwell Mangum and Martha A. Christmas Mangum.
Martha attended Grover Elementary School in South Carolina, then Camden Elementary in Fayetteville, North Carolina, and later Massey Hill High School in Fayetteville, North Carolina. After moving to Columbus, Martha continued her education at Columbus Tech, furthering her studies in computers.
Martha’s career included work with Elaine Powers Fitness Center and East Central Wax Company, where she served as the bookkeeper. She also gave generously of her time through volunteer work as a teacher’s aide and as a substitute teacher. Active in her church, Martha loved reading her Bible, with the New Testament holding a special place in her heart. Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday, a reflection of the value she placed on family, togetherness, and gratitude.
On March 7, 1959, Martha married Jack T. Greene in Fayetteville, North Carolina. She is survived by her two sons, Jack T. Greene, II and Robert Greene (Tammy); her sister, Connie Caudle (Larry); her grandchildren, Jack Thomas Greene, III, Holly Lynn Greene, and step-grandson, Zachary Gallman; her great-grandchildren, Jack Thomas Greene, IV and Hudson Stuart Greene; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Martha was an avid baker—especially known for wedding cakes—and she was an excellent cook. Her care for others could be felt in the ways she served, taught, and gathered those she loved.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Fisher Chapel, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia, on Saturday March 14, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. followed by Funeral Services at 11:00 a.m. with Chaplain Donald Hall officiating. Interment will take place at Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road, Columbus.
