Martha was born on born on December 5, 1958, in Donalsonville, Georgia to the late Winson and Jessie Mae Broxton. After high school, Martha attended Columbus State University and obtained two Master's Degrees before pursuing a career as a certified public accountant. She excelled in her profession, working at notable organizations such as Cott Beverages, WTVM Business Office, and TSYS. After meeting the love of her life, Richard Smith Jr., they built a family and were married for 40 years before her passing.
In her free time, Martha enjoyed playing the piano and handbells. She was a faithful member of Wynnton Methodist Church, where she enjoyed going for 25 years. The most important thing in her life were her sons, Zach and Ben, who she loved more than anything. Martha was very involved in their sports - specifically swimming and she was their biggest cheerleader.
Martha's excitement about becoming a grandmother was noticed by everyone, as being a mother was her greatest joy. Her love for her family was evident in all she did, and she will be remembered for her gentle spirit and unwavering love and kindness.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Inge Smith Jr., son Benjamin Smith (Savannah), and granddaughter Lily Smith. She is preceded in death by her parents, Winson and Jessie Mae Broxton, and her son Zachary Smith.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, St. Elmo Room, Columbus, Georgia 31907, on November 12, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. A second visitation will take place at Wynnton Methodist Church, 2412 Wynnton Road, Columbus, Georgia, 31907, on November 15, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM which will be officiated by Jason Wade and Steve Croft.
