Wednesday, February 26, at First Baptist Church of Columbus with Dr. Jimmy Elder officiating. Visitation will be from six to eight o'clock Tuesday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. Warner Neal, Jr.
A lifelong resident of Columbus, Mrs. Neal was born March 29, 1930, the youngest child of the late Joseph Ernest Flowers and the late Mildred McCreery Flowers. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mildred Neal Scott of Atlanta, and her three brothers, Joseph Ernest Flowers, Jr., Robert McCreery Flowers, M.D., and Charles McCreery Flowers. Her survivors include her husband of 61 years, Edward Warner Neal, their daughters, Florence Arthur Neal (Michael J. Kowalski) of Brooklyn, NY, and Margaret Neal Amos (Troy), their son Edward Warner Neal, Jr., (Lisa) and their son-in-law, Michael Leon Scott of Atlanta.
She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Mary Ann Flowers Scott and Emma Louise Scott, Edward Neal Amos, James Troy Amos III and Daniel Flowers Amos, and Edward Warner Neal III and William Stinson Neal.
Mrs. Neal received her early education at Wynnton Elementary School and Columbus High School and was a graduate of Virginia Intermont College, Bristol, Virginia. She was a member of First Baptist Church, the Ivy Garden Club and the Junior League of Columbus. Each of these and the Wynnton School PTA benefited from her love of gardening and her expertise which she generously shared with them.
She served for many years as chairman of the Plant Department at the annual Junior League Attic Sale. While her children attended Wynnton School she planned and saw to completion an extensive landscaping project on the grounds of the school.
The deep devotion of her life was her family. They spent many happy years at their home on Wildwood Avenue and at their country place near Seale, Al. She gardened at both places, raising, among other plants, orchids, day lilies, blueberries and daffodils. She planted hundreds of the latter along the banks of the lake in the country. She spent many hours teaching her grandchildren about nature, how to fish, how to hunt and how to respect and preserve the forest.
The family would like to express its profound appreciation to Sylvania Moffett, Rosa Jones and the staff at Spring Harbor for their loyal and compassionate care.
