

Mildred Louise “Mickey” Barnes, of Opelika, AL, passed away peacefully in her home on December 7, 2011. Born September 3, 1924, in Phenix City, AL, to the late James H. McWhorter, Sr., and Leona Tillery McWhorter, she was preceded in death by her husband, Homer A. Barnes and brother, James H. McWhorter, Jr. She was a member of Wesley Memorial UMC, Opelika, AL.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 11, 2011, from 4 – 6 p.m. (EST) at the Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM (EST) Monday, December 12, 2011, in the Striffler-Hamby Chapel, Reverend Jim Hilderbrand and Reverend Dan Pezet officiating. Interment will follow in Parkhill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mrs. Barnes’ grandsons.
Survivors include one son, Stacy A. Barnes (Lynn), Midland, GA; three daughters, Susan Porterfield (Dan), Opelika, AL, Martha “Muffett” Ball (Lee), Hamilton, GA, and Cathleen Carowick, Columbus, GA; nine grandchildren, Ray Porterfield (Jill), Opelika, AL, Jennifer Daley (Shawn), Valley, AL, Terra Schoenberger (Greg), Cataula, GA, Scott Parker (Priscilla), Opelika, AL, Wendy Washam (Bo), Columbus, GA, Paul Barnes (Allison), Rhine, GA, Kendall Phelps, Columbus, GA, Andy Carowick, Columbus, GA and Daniel Barnes, Greenville, NC and fifteen great- grandchildren.
