

Mollie Evans, age 90, resident of Columbus, died on Sunday, August 7, 2011 at Magnolia Manor Nursing Facility. Everyone called her "Miss Mollie." Funeral services are scheduled at the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus on Thursday, August 11, 2011, 11 a.m. with Reverend Udell Addison, Reverend Thomas Pope, and Reverend David Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 from 5-7 p.m. Mrs. Evans, daughter of the late William Anderson Carter and Mattie Dyess Carter, was born July 15, 1921 in Brundidge, AL. She was retired from Muscogee Manufacturing after over 40 years of faithful service. Mrs. Evans was a founding member of Central Baptist Church, Columbus, and was very active in the church. For the Wednesday evening services, she provided meals for several years. She was also a member of the New Hope WMU and provided meals to the Men of Crossroads of the Valley Rescue Mission. Mrs. Evans was preceded in death by her husband, James Evans; four sisters; and three brothers. She is survived by one son, Andy Evans and his companion Donna Stone; one sister, Meritta Findley and her husband Gerald of Gainesville, FL; four brothers, Hilton Carter and his wife Irene of Brundidge, AL, Max Carter of Phenix City, AL, Jimmy Carter and his wife Martha Ann of Auburn, AL, Billy Carter and his wife Joan of Troy, AL; three grandsons, Timothy Evans and his wife Deborah of Kennesaw, GA, Laurin Evans of Dallas, GA, and Paul Evans and his wife Eva of Woodstock, GA; four great-grandchildren, Jessica Evans, Nathan Evans, Christopher Evans, and Nickolas Evans; other relatives and friends.
