Neal married the love of his life Julie Wright Littlejohn 60 years ago on May 2, 1964. Neal lived a life filled with joy, integrity and love. We will miss his strength of character, his witty and dry humor, and wise counsel. Neal always placed the needs of his family first and was the center of their universe. The value of treating all with dignity and respect are traits he instilled those around him. He was a true gentleman to all.
Neal Boyd Littlejohn was born on June 3, 1937, son of Harlow Thompson Littlejohn and Boyd B. Littlejohn. A lifelong resident of Columbus, Georgia, Neal attended Wynnton Elementary School and graduated with the Columbus High School class of 1955. Neal then attended the University of Alabama. While at Alabama, Neal was active in the student government and served as President of the Kappa Alpha fraternity. He then attended the University of Georgia School of Law from which he graduated and was admitted to the State Bar of Georgia in 1961. While at the University of Georgia Law School, Neal was elected Chief Justice of the Honor Court and was selected to be a student member of the Gridiron Secret Society.
After law school, Neal served in the US Army then returned to Columbus where he practiced law for over 50 years. He served as President of the Columbus Bar Association and was a member of the Columbus Rotary Club for 35 years. Upon marrying, the Littlejohns joined the First Presbyterian Church of Columbus. Neal served there in many ways including as a Deacon, Elder and Clerk of Session. In later years, Neal returned to his birth church and was an active member of First Baptist Church of Columbus.
An avid golfer from an early age, Neal was a member of the 1955 Columbus High State Championship golf team, and he played on the golf team at the University of Alabama. Neal was loved by his Overlook neighbors where he is remembered for his leadership in starting the Overlook Neighborhood Party and hours of fun organizing games for neighborhood children.
