Damon is survived by his wife, Gloria Strickland; and son, Shawn Strickland; brother, Gene Strickland Jr.; and his two grandchildren, Archimedes Michael and Owen Damon Strickland; along with extended family. He was predeceased by his sister, Tina Marie Gunn; mother, Ruby Jewell Strickland; and father, Horace Eugene Strickland.
Damon was born on April 24, 1965 to Horace Eugene and Ruby Jewell Strickland. He worked as a home inspector, carpenter and metal worker as well as owner of Ace Home Inspections, a family owned business he ran alongside his brother, Gene Strickland, Jr. His work was his vision and calling, and he endeavored to be the gold standard. On July 6, 1985 he married Gloria Strickland, his high school sweetheart. On October 17, 1991, they welcomed his only son into the world who, along with his wife, was the most important thing in his entire life.
Damon was a devoted father, understanding and forgiving individual and avid golfer. He enjoyed the beach, golfing, learning new things on YouTube, tinkering in his work shop and was a proficient metal worker. He often would just make the things he needed instead of buying them because he knew that his standard of building it was better. He was also a very innovative and seasoned wood worker who never found anything that he could not do or make out of wood. He was a great mentor to everyone and loved and thought of by many as one of the most kindhearted, laidback, easy going, fun loving and intelligent guys they ever had the opportunity of meeting. He met each day with a sense of humility, creativity and was in touch with his inner child, especially when surrounded by his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family and all who knew him.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 P.M. on June 15 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary. Reverend Jerry Spears will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Flowers and condolences may be offered at 5441 Richmond Ave. Columbus, Ga 31904.
