Randolph Swift Jordan, 71, better known as Randy, died peacefully among family members and loved ones at home on September 3, 2013. A lifelong resident of Columbus, he was born on January 27, 1942, the son of the late Helen Swift Jordan and G. Gunby Jordan II. He attended Trinity School in Columbus, GA, Darlington School in Rome, GA and was a graduate of Jordan High School.
Throughout his life, Randy had many interests. Growing up he enjoyed hunting and fishing. For many years, Randy was an avid weight lifter and fitness enthusiast encouraging others to take up the sport.
For most of his life, he was a devoted fan and faithful supporter of Columbus High School athletics. He was considered to be more than just a fan of the baseball program. Coach Bobby Howard and his Blue Devils considered Randy to be a fellow teammate and integral part of the team. As one of their most loyal fans, Randy was a regular in the dugout and frequently traveled with the team. Randy was in the dugout for all twelve of Columbus High’s state championship titles in baseball. His passion and his commitment was an inspiration to teams throughout the years. In 1999 the field was dedicated in his honor and named Randy Jordan Field.
Randy’s family is particularly grateful for the special relationship that Randy had with Linda and the late Alex Bush, who were his devoted and loving caregivers since 1988.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, G. Gunby Jordan, III. He is survived by his sisters, Helen Jordan Hobbs and her husband A.
