
Reba S. Elrod, age 72, resident of Columbus, died on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at St. Francis Hospital. Memorial services are scheduled at Edgewood Baptist Church, 3564 Forrest Road, Columbus on Monday, September 26, 2011, 11 a.m. with Reverend Andy Merritt and Reverend David Howle officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus. Interment will be at Crest Lawn Cemetery, Cookeville, TN on Wednesday, September 28, 2011. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, September 25, 2011 from 3-5 p.m. Mrs. Elrod, daughter of the late Carlos Ethan Smith and Lassie Gentry Smith, was born March 28, 1939 in Cookeville, TN. She was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church and retired from the Muscogee County School District where she faithfully served for over 25 years. During her distinguished career, she was awarded the Georgia Outstanding Assistant Principal Award-1995 by the Georgia Association of Elementary School Principals. Mrs. Elrod was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be remembered for her great generosity. Mrs. Elrod was a dedicated Sunday School teacher and a servant of her Lord Jesus Christ. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Captain (U.S. Army) Waymon Clay Elrod and three brothers. Mrs. Elrod is survived by one daughter, Deanna Elrod Anest and her husband Colonel (U.S. Army) Peri Anest of Tampa, FL; one son, Brian Thomas Elrod and his wife Helen Elrod of Columbus; two sisters, Lois Ramsey and Prillie Kerrigan, both of Cookeville, TN; four grandchildren, Christopher Clay Anest and his wife Jessica Anest, Katherine Lynn Anest, Victoria Lynn Elrod, and Michael Brian Elrod. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Edgewood Baptist Church, Senior Adult Ministry, 3564 Forrest Road, Columbus, GA 31907.
