

Pastor Dan V. Gates, 62, of Columbus, GA passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at his home, surrounded by his family. The family will receive friends Thursday, November 4, 2010 from 5 until 7 pm at Striffler – Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 5, 2010 at 11:00 am in St. Mark United Methodist Church, Columbus, GA with interment following at Parkhill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Firemen from Fire Station # 6 of Columbus, where Pastor Dan taught Sunday School for several years.
Pastor Gates was born in West Virginia on June 6, 1948. He was married to Patsy Ann Holden, his wife of 42 years. He is survived by his twin sons and their families, Jonathan and Brooke Gates, Alan and Tracey Gates, and his grandchildren that he dearly loved, Anna Catherine and Brandon, Breanna and Olivia Gates. He is also survived by his brother, Donald Gates of Palm City, FL, his very special aunt, Helena Morgan of Charleston, West Virginia, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pastor Dan Gates proudly served 13 years in the United States Army and was one of America’s Vietnam Veterans. He entered the ministry as a United Methodist Pastor and served throughout the South Georgia Conference for 27 years. He served at East Highland United Methodist Church for 19 years.
Pastor Dan was a member of the Coweta Falls Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. He is a former State Chaplain of the Georgia Society and had received numerous awards for his work in this organization.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to East Highland United Methodist Church.
