Richard James Kelly, Jr., age 70, resident of Columbus, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital. Funeral services are scheduled in the Mill Room of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Rd. Columbus, GA 31907, on Monday, March 7, 2016 at 10:00am with Pastor Gary Tankersley officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, March 6, 2016 from 4:00-6:00pm. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery.
Mr. Kelly, son of the late Richard James Kelly Sr. and Nell Jarvis Kelly, was born June 21, 1945 in Fort Benning, Georgia.
He retired from the Columbus Municipal Court Clerk’s office and was an Associate Pastor at HarvestPointe Church of the Nazarene. He loved God, his Country, and his family.
Other than his parents, Mr. Kelly was preceded in death by his sisters, Madge Nell Nobles, and Barbara Evelyn Foster.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Rita Kelly; son, Richard James Kelly, III (Natalie); daughter, Joanne Strickland (Sammy); three grandchildren, Julianne Kelly, Richard Kelly IV, Chad Strickland; brother, Bill Kelly (Lisa); many other relatives and friends.
