

Richard Milo Stevens, Sr., 93, of Columbus, Georgia, passed away Friday, May 22, 2015 at Columbus Hospice House. A Graveside service will be held Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at Parkhill Cemetery with Chaplain Wayne Hollaway officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 9:30 am-10:30 am in the St. Elmo Room of Striffler-Hamby.
Mr. Stevens, son of the late Milo Webster Stevens and Verna Godwin Stevens, was born June 8, 1921 in Columbus, GA. He was a graduate of Columbus High School. Mr. Stevens joined the U.S. Army in 1942 where he was a Radio Operator and Mechanic. During his time in the U.S. Army he was involved in Luzon Go 33 WD 45, New Guinea GO WD 45, and Sou Philippines GO 33 WD 45. He received a Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars and Philippine Lib Service Ribbon. Mr. Stevens was an avid Ham Radio Operator, Amateur Radio Operator Call Sign AK4T, with the crowning achievement of working All Countries. He was a lifelong member of St. Luke United Methodist Church.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 32 years, Elizabeth Danielly Stevens, his brother, Jack Caldwell and sister, Margaret Caldwell Page. Survivors include his son, Richard Milo Stevens, Jr. (Sandy) of Altamonte Springs, FL; daughter Barbara Annette Stevens of Columbus, GA; grandchildren Kristina Stevens, Marla Stevens and Katie Cauley; great grandchildren Gabriel, Micah and Taylor, other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Magnolia Manor Personal Care Home, 2040 Warm Springs Rd, Columbus, Georgia 31904.
