Rita Ann Alexander Sturgill, age 64, of Columbus, passed away on September 24, 2019. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at 3:00 pm at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary in Columbus; with the family visiting with friends an hour prior to services.
Rita was born in Columbus, Ga on September 19, 1955; the daughter of Otis Alexander and Lilla Adams Alexander. She grew up in Columbus/Phenix City area and graduated from Mt. Olive High School in P.C. Rita was a strong lady that taught her family the importance of being strong in adversity and humble in success, to work hard, and to be honest in all you do. She enjoyed laughing, funny movies and when needed she laughed at life to get through trials. What Rita loved more than anything was her family, she cherished being a mother and grandmother, sister and a friend to many. The lessons she taught her family will be passed down for generations to come.
Rita is preceded in death by: her parents; step-mother, Julia (Pritchett) Alexander; a sister, Willa Mae (Alexander) Williams; a brother, Richard Alexander; two grandsons, Juáneqio King and Liam Alexander.
Rita is survived by: her four sons, Vidal (Monique) Alexander of Atlanta, GA, Sylvester (Denise) Jenkins III of Clarksville, TN, Antonio Sturgill and Shaquille Sturgill, both of Columbus, GA; five grandchildren, Jonequio King, Emmanuel Grant, Deshun Jenkins, Alex Jenkins, Rileigh Jenkins, two sisters, Janice (Waymond) Credle and Charlotte Alexander, both of Columbus, GA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that will cherish her memory.
