Columbus, GA - Robert (Bob) Lee Fleisch, 86, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 7, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at Edgewood Presbyterian Church, Columbus, GA, with the Rev. Dr. George Haugen officiating. The family will receive friends from 1pm-2pm in the narthex of the church. A reception will be held in the Fellowship Hall following the service.
Bob was born in Washington, Missouri, on September 9, 1931, to the late Christian R. Fleisch & Caroline Rohlfing Fleisch. He was raised in Hermann, MO, where he graduated from high school in 1949. Bob continued his education, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Missouri - Columbia in 1957, & a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Chicago in 1974.
After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Navy & served his country proudly for 4 years.
On August 14, 1954, he married the love of his life, Jean Findlay, of Gasconade, MO. Their 63 1/2 years together were a grand, love-filled adventure. Together they raised their two children, Julie & David. Bob was a devoted husband & father. In addition to their unconditional love, the greatest gifts Bob & Jean have given their children are roots & wings.
He went to work in 1957 as a sales representative for Proctor & Gamble. Two years later he joined the Milcor Division of Inland Steel Products Company. In 1974, he was transferred to the Panels Division. He remained with the Panels Division where he received promotions until he ultimately became a Vice-President in 1979. In 1990, he left Inland Steel & moved to Georgia to become the General Manager of Nord-Bitumi, a roofing manufacturing company where he remained until his retirement in 1996.
On January 19, 1980, Bob was named Man of the Year, by the Hermann Jaycees; he was the keynote speaker at their annual banquet.
Bob faithfully served the Lord & the communities he lived in. As a member of the Presbyterian Church USA since 1957, Bob was on a number of committees at each church where he & his family lived. He also served as an Elder in Hales Corners, WI; Macon, GA & Columbus, GA. He was a Mason; President & Life member of the Kiwanis Club of Macon, GA & a dedicated blood donor, donating over 200 pints of blood, along with platelets several times. He served on the Board of the American Cancer Society in Macon, GA, where for 10 years, he organized & ran a benefit golf tournament at Healy Point Country Club.
Bob was an avid golfer. He played regularly until age 85. His travels for business & family vacations gave him the opportunity to play over 400 golf courses around the country. On one of their many trips, he & Jean went to Scotland where he enjoyed playing golf. Over the years, Bob had 5 Holes in One.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; his daughter Julie Ligon & her husband, Bob of Midland, GA; his son David & his wife, Chelsea of Ventura CA; his granddaughter
Laura Fleisch Hooton & her husband, Douglas; of Ventura, CA; his grandson Justin Werth, & his wife Sandra of Ventura, CA; his great-grandson Jack Werth of Ventura, CA; his sister, Peggy Fleisch Ochsner of Tulsa, OK; his sister-in-law, Lynne Fleisch of Little Rock, AR; nieces & nephews, great & great-grand nieces & nephews & a host of wonderful friends throughout the country.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Rodney Fleisch; his brother-in-law, Win Ochsner.
