
Judge Robert Glenn Johnston, III, age 62, passed away at his residence on Friday, March 12, 2011. Memorial services will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 1100 1st Avenue, Columbus on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at 4:00 PM with Rev. Charles Hasty, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends at the church after conclusion of the service. Judge Johnston, son of the late Robert Glenn Johnston Jr. and Merle Farrar Johnston, was born September 3, 1948 in Columbus. He graduated from Presbyterian College AB in 1970 and later graduated from Emory University School of Law JD in 1973. Upon graduation, he was admitted to the Georgia State Bar in 1973. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Order and was Presbyterian Student Body President. Judge Johnston served his country honorably as a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was appointed as Assistant Solicitor State Court in 1977; Elected State Court Judge in 1983; appointed Judge Superior Court in 1995; and took Senior Judge Status in 2010. Judge Johnston was devoted to his work and strongly believed in the rule of the law. He was awarded a Paul Harris Fellow for the Rotary Club of Columbus in 2011; served as Deacon at First Presbyterian Church; and was a Senior Member of Green Island Country Club. Judge Johnston shared a love of golf and was an avid follower of politics and sports. He was very passionate about spending time with family, especially his four grandchildren, many times traveling long distances despite his failing health to be with his grandchildren. Judge Johnston was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Lewis Johnston. Survivors include his wife Lois Ross Johnston of Columbus; three daughters, Farrar Johnston Abbott and her husband Ely of Atlanta, Margaret Johnston Montenegro and her husband Diego of Orlando, FL, and Victoria Glenn Johnston of Columbus; four grandchildren, Matias Robert Montenegro, Johnston Ely Abbott, Lucia Ray Montenegro, and Robert McKay Abbott; also survived by Dr. Carol Johnston and David Johnston; numerous other relatives and friends.
