Born in Indianola, MS on November 14, 1945, he was the son of Eloise Warren Ellett and Ross James Martin. He was a resident of Columbus, Georgia.
Ross graduated from Hinds Jr. College and Ole Miss with a degree in IT, laying the groundwork for a life shaped by steady purpose and disciplined learning. He went on to build a career in IT and programing, and also served in the Navy—commitments that reflected a deep respect for duty and a devotion to his country.
For 55 years, Ross was married to Pansy Martin, and together they built a life centered on faith, family, and enduring love. He loved God, his family and his country, and those priorities remained constant throughout his life.
Ross found genuine joy in simple, familiar pleasures: fishing, watching old movies and the Hallmark Channel, and spending time outdoors. He loved his guns, cherished being at the beach, and never lost his appreciation for anything sweet his wife makes. Above all, he treasured being with his grandchildren, and his presence among them was marked by warmth, steadiness, and a dry sense of humor that could brighten even ordinary moments.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Eloise and Ross Martin.
He is survived by his wife, Pansy Martin; his sons, Tim (Karen) and Kevin (Kelsey) Martin; his sisters, Connie Crumley, Debbie Ellett, Judy Ellett and Jean Allen; as well as his grandchildren, Katlin (Josh) Johnson, Kherington, Timothy Joel, Kaden, Kole, Kollins, and Freya.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary in Fisher Chapel, 4071 Macon Rd. Columbus GA 31907. A celebration of life for Ross will be held at the same location, on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at 10:30 AM, with burial at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery at 12:30 PM.
