

A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Monday, March 13, 2017 at 11:00am in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia. Burial with honors will follow at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery. Family will visit with friends Sunday at Striffler-Hamby in the Wildwood Room from 3:00pm until 5:00pm. Flowers are accepted but donations can be made in Mr. Roy’s memory to Alacare Home Health and Hospice Fund, 2400 John Hawkins Parkway, Birmingham, Alabama 35244.
Roy Quenton Byrd was born on September 22, 1939 to the late Harvey Eugene Byrd and Willie Agnes Blackburn Byrd. He faithfully served his country for over 26 years in the U. S. Army and the National Guard. Mr. Byrd retired with civil service at Ft. Benning, Georgia after retiring from his military position. He was married to Brenda Edwards Byrd for 57 years. Mr. Byrd was a member of Grace Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed working with wood, fishing and hunting. Other than his parents, Mr. Byrd is also preceded in death by his son, Ronald Byrd, sisters, Kathleen Adams and Shelby Neely; and brother, Larry Byrd.
He leaves his legacy to be cherished to his loving wife, Brenda Byrd; daughter, Cheryl (Wayne) Moorefield; sons, Gary Byrd and Kevin (Angie) Byrd; brother, Ezra Mack (Pansy) Byrd; seven grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
