Ruth M. Mozo Ball

Ruth was born on Sunday, August 4, 1929, the daughter of Mr. Albert Ray Mozo and Mrs. Ethyl Parker Mozo in Nyack, New York. Ruth was an avid reader and loved to learn. She began her secondary education at Georgia State College for Women, now known as Georgia State College and University in Milledgeville, GA, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She then went on to attend the University of Idaho, where she received a Master’s Degree in Counseling. She then attended Auburn University and received her Specialist Certification. During this time she met the love her life, Ray and married him on November 13, 1954. Together they had one son, Alan Ray Ball. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a professional honorary Society of women educators and a member of Wynnbrook Baptist church for 59 years. Ruth was employed as a guidance counselor for 34 years in the Muscogee County School District. She was the first guidance counselor at Richards Junior High and when Hardaway High opened, she became the first guidance counselor there too. Ruth enjoyed spending time in the garden and the many beautiful flowers she nurtured. She was also fond of bridge and enjoyed time spent with friends playing cards together. She loved her church and devoted much of her time to its work.

She was preceded in death by her son, Alan Ray Ball; her parents; two sisters, Ethyl Rae Mozo and Ouida Mizo; one brother, Robert Mozo. Survivors include her husband Ray E. Ball, three granddaughters, Nicole Ball-Palmer, Andrea Ball-Hayden, Cherilyn Ball; and two great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at Striffler – Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd., Columbus, GA. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Wynnbrook Baptist Church, 500 River Knoll Way, Columbus, GA. Interment will be in the Parkhill Cemetery after services.
