Sara was born on December 14, 1934, to Lula and John Henry Battles in Dothan, Alabama. She attended and graduated from Rehobeth High School in 1953 in Dothan, Alabama. She then met Jack C. Tucker who would later be her husband of 69 years. Sara was known for her hard work. She retired from Swift Mill after 43 years of being the cloth inspector. With that skill came her hobbies of sewing, crocheting and monogramming.
Along with her crafting skills she enjoyed gardening, planting vegetables and flowers as well as cooking. She loved reading to her grandkids and being around family. She cherished her two dachshunds, Sadie and Lady, who were like her children.
She is survived by her husband, Jack C. Tucker; her son, David C. Tucker; her grandkids, Amanda Tucker Reichle (Kevin), Brandy Tucker Eldridge (Mickey), Jacob C. Tucker (Brittney) and Cody Coulter (Katie); her great grandchildren, Gracie, Ellie, Tyler, Kyle, Lainey, Addi, Stella and Jude; and her sister, Marilyn Lewis (William). She is preceded in death by her son, Jackie G. Tucker; her parents, Lula B. Battles and John Henry Battles; her brothers, Hubert, Edward and Boyd Battles; and her sister, Leila Culpepper.
A visitation for Sara will be held Tuesday, September 23, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA 31907. A funeral service will occur 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 24, 2025, in the Fisher chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary.
