Shirley E. Hawthorne, age 77, resident of Columbus, is now rejoicing with the angels. Jesus called her to her heavenly home Tuesday, February 24, 2015. A graveside service is scheduled on Friday, February 27, 2015 at 2:00pm in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00pm at Striffler-Hamby, Columbus, prior to the graveside service. Service will be officiated by Pastor Aaron Baldridge of Calvary Freewill Baptist Church.
Ms. Hawthorne, daughter of the late Ulysies S. Hawthorne and Josephine F. Hawthorne, was born July 31, 1937 in Holmes County, Florida. Columbus has been her home since her late teens.
Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by one sister and three brothers. Ms. Hawthorne is survived by two sisters, Mary Price of Ft Payne, AL., Jimmie “Faye” Crouch of Columbus; and a loving, devoted cousin, Dean Melton, who was like her son. It was a blessing God placed Dean in Shirley’s life due to the loss of his mother at a young age. Other survivors include many nieces; nephews; and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ms. Hawthorne’s name to their favorite charity.
