
Mrs. Sue Ward Godwin, 78, of Columbus, GA passed away Thursday, February 11, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital. A Graveside service will be held Monday, February 15, 2016 at 11:00 AM in Parkhill Cemetery with Reverend Jim and Karen Herring officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 2:00-4:00 PM in the Wynnton Room of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Road.
Mrs. Godwin was born in Columbus, GA and was the daughter to the late Mr. and Mrs. Herman Ward. She was a 1954 graduate of Jordan High School and attended Columbus College. Mrs. Godwin was an extra class Amateur Radio Operator and a member of the Columbus Amateur Radio Club. She held the call sign W4SUE. Mrs. Godwin was a Medical Transcriptionist at Fort Benning’s Martin Army Hospital until her retirement in 1993 and ran her own transcription business in Columbus for a number of years afterwards. She was a member of Gray Station Christian in Gray Station, TN.
Mrs. Godwin is survived by her husband of 58 years, Thomas Griffin “Griff” Godwin, Jr. of Columbus, GA; two sons Jeffrey G. Godwin (Amy) of Grayson, GA and Russell S. Godwin of Atlanta, GA; a sister Linda McLaughlin (Bill) of Marlinton, WV; and a nephew Warren McLaughlin of Marlinton, WV.
