Veleta Fay La Rue (Lee), 77, passed away on November 2, 2013 at her home in Columbus, GA surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Weiner, AR as the first daughter to the late Essie Pauline and Joseph Bland. In 1951 she married SFC Clarence J. La Rue, Jr. and together they had 7 children.
Veleta devoted her life to her family and to improving the lives of others. As a loving mother and compassionate friend, she touched many lives and her charitable nature remains in our hearts.
Veleta is survived by her children, Chuck, Dawn, Laura, Monique, Suzanne and Larry; her sisters, Jerline, JoeAnna, and Linda Rose; 25 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, SFC Clarence J. La Rue, Jr. and her daughter Melody.
The family will receive friends for visitation and viewing on Thursday, November 7, 2013 beginning at 1:00 pm at Striffler Hamby 4071 Macon Road. Services and interment will be graveside at 3:00 pm followed by a reception to celebrate Veleta’s life in the Mill Room at Striffler Hamby.
