

MSG (Ret.) Vern Alan Skumautz, 59, of Hamilton, GA; formerly of Holiday, FL, passed away with his wife and children present, on June 5, 2016. He was born on January 29, 1957 in Witchita, KS to Vern L. and Betty J. Skumautz. A Memorial Service will be held in the Mill Room of Striffler-Hamby at 11:00am, June 24, 2016. The family will receive friends at 10:00am in the Mill Room. Interment to be held following the service, with full military honors at Parkhill Cemetery, Veterans Garden, Eagle section, Columbus, GA.
Vern served his country honorably and faithfully in the U.S. Army from 1975 to 1998. He served at Fort Bragg, NC, Schofield Army Barracks, HI, Sullivan Barracks, Germany, Fort Rucker, AL, Fort Benning, GA, Fort Davis, Panama and Fort Meade, MD. After his retirement he worked as a cable installer for Knology, Charter and Mediacom. He loved to play golf and spend time with his family.
Vern is survived by his wife: Kathy L Skumautz, two daughters and one son: Krystal A. Hendershot (Rodney) of Heath, OH; Melanie D. Chandler (Travis) of Salem, IA; Jeremy S. Skumautz (Analisa) Phenix City, AL; his father Vern L. Skumautz (Barbara) of Greenville, SC; mother Betty J. Skumautz of Holiday, FL; sister Karen L. Wilcox (Charles) of Palm Harbor, FL; Michael S. Skumautz (Tamara) of New Port Richey, FL; Benji J. Skumautz (Christine) of Lutz, FL. He has nine grandchildren and many extended family and friends.
