Wallace J. Owens, age 84, passed away at home on September 8, 2021 surrounded by his family. A visitation will be held on Sunday September 12, 2021 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm. The celebration of Wallace’s life will be held on Monday, September 13, 2021 at 11:00 am. with Rev. Thomas H. Harrison and Rev. Brian D. McCrory officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery.
Wallace was born on December 20, 1936 in Columbus, Georgia; the son of Samuel Ezekiel Owens and Leila Lois Kimbrell Owens.
Wallace graduated from Jordan high school and shortly thereafter joined the United States Army. He served a tour of duty and then served in the Army National Guard for four years. Wallace married Joyce Blizzard on June 17, 1960 at North Highland Assembly of God church here in Columbus Georgia. Wallace was a Production Control Manager for West Point Pepperell and retired after 48 years of employment. He coached women’s church league softball, went on many mission trips and served in the prison ministry here in Muscogee County. Wallace was a devoted husband, father and Pawpaw. He loved his Savior and taught his family how to live a Godly life, to work hard and to be responsible adults. During high school, Wallace was a track star, he was a diehard Georgia Bulldog fan and huge fan of the Atlanta Braves. What he loved more than anything was his family and chocolate in any form, whether it be shakes, cake, or candy. His family meant the world to him and he cherished the time they spent together.
Wallace is preceded in death by: his son, Allen Dewayne Owens; his father, Samuel E Owens; his mother, Lois Owens; two brothers, Marvin Owens and Bernest Owens; and a sister, Barbara Faircloth
Survivors include: his wife, Joyce B Owens; his daughters, Rhonda D. Owens, Andrea F McCrory (Brian D. McCrory Sr.) grandson, Brian D McCrory Jr; granddaughters, Samantha Michelle McCrory, Ryann Danielle Dixon and Elizabeth Faye McCrory and several great-grandchildren.
