Walter Jay Jackson

Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 17, 2019 in Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, AL. according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, GA.

Walter was born December 1, 1952 in Atlanta, GA. He is the son of the late David A. Jackson and Eleanor J. Jackson. Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Miss Georgia “Dodie" Lee Jackson.

Walter is survived by his brothers, David "Dave" Jackson (Eva) of Austell, GA; Douglas Jackson (Karen) of Griffin, GA; sisters, Carol Jones (Carl) of Douglasville, GA; Beverly Gordy (Allen) of Columbus, GA; Nephews, Dennis Jackson, Douglas Jackson, Jr. Nieces, Christie Maddox, Jennifer Jackson, Brandi Wright, and Laura Gladney. Two sons, Jeffrey Jackson and Steven Jackson. Several extended family members and caring friends.

With all its 'ups' and ‘downs’, Walter had a happy and wonderful life. He enjoyed playing golf, watching and talking about his favorite football teams, the Georgia 'DAWGS' and the Green Bay Packers 'PACKS' every football season. Walter was a very caring and loving person to all of his friends--he would do anything he could to help anyone. Walter served in the U.S. Air Force with the Fire Protection Unit in 1971.
