Walter Wendell Mason, 85, of Cataula, Georgia, died at home on March 22, 2018. Funeral Services will be held Monday, March 26, 2018 at 3 o’clock in the afternoon at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road Chapel, with Reverend Wayne Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-3 PM at the Funeral Home.
Mr. Mason was born October 18, 1932, in Stewart County, Georgia, son of the late Irene Smith Mason Dunaway and Roy Bernard (Ickey) Mason of Stewart County.
He was retired from Bill Heard Chevrolet Co. as Parts Manager after forty years of service. His early years were spent in Stewart County, Georgia, with the Forestry Commission and Fort Bros. Chevrolet Co. He was a member of Morningside Baptist Church.
Mr. Mason was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 55 years, Emily Harris Mason, his son Walter W. Mason, Jr., and granddaughter Amanda Lea Mason. Survivors include: daughter-in-law, Anne Mason of Columbus, Georgia; sister, Bernadine Mason Jones; brother, Gary Mason (Carol); nieces, Kim Goare (Mike), Kasi Horton (Benji);two great-nieces, Hailee Goare and Addi Horton and two great-nephews, Benji Horton, Jr. and Mason Horton, all of Lumpkin, Georgia; a special family friend, Jeff Ponder; and many other friends who will miss him dearly.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Morningside Baptist Church or Muscogee Humane Society in his memory.
