Columbus, Georgia- SFC (Ret) Wayne E. Eicher, age 79, resident of Columbus, died on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at Columbus Hospice House. Funeral services are scheduled at the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus on Saturday, June 29, 2013, 11 a.m. with Reverend Rodney Porter officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, June 28, 2013 from 6-8 p.m.
SFC Eicher, son of the late Wade Eicher and Matilda Kuhns Eicher, was born September 16, 1933 in Mansfield, Pennsylvania. He was a member of Striplin Terrace United Methodist Church and retired from the U.S. Army where he served in Vietnam and many other military stations for over 23 years. After retirement from the military, he began another career in civil service at Fort Benning, serving and retiring with over 15 years of faithful service. SFC Eicher was also a lifetime member of the VFW, Post 665 and F.O.P.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. SFC Eicher is survived by his wife, Lucille Eicher of Columbus; two daughters, Kim Rutherford of Springfield, Missouri and Tammy Singleterry of Phenix City, Alabama; five sons, Wayne Eicher, Jr of Pensacola, Florida, Tony Eicher of Pelion, South Carolina, Doug Eicher of Charleston, South Carolina, James Eicher of Opelika, Alabama, and Allen Eicher of Harrisonville, Missouri; two sisters, June Crosby Elkins of West Virginia and Jane Tunney of Greensboro, Pennsylvania; one step-daughter, Pam Perrine of Columbus; two step-sons, Charles Greer of Richland, South Carolina and Greg Greer of Columbus; 30 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
