

William Eugene “Gene” Catrett, age 78, deported this life entering his heavenly home on December 23, 2015, surrounded with the love of his family. Funeral services are scheduled on Saturday, December 26, 2015 at 10:30am in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Road Columbus, GA 31907, with Reverend Thomas Pope of Central Baptist Church in Columbus officiating.
Mr. Catrett was born on January 17, 1937 in Troy, Alabama to Sally McMillian and William Catrett. After moving to Columbus, GA at an early age, he resided in Columbus until his death. He was a Baptist and affectionally known as “Bay”. Mr. Catrett was a hard worker with a strong work ethic, having worked at Golden’s Foundry, Columbus, Consolidated Government – EMT, Columbus Foundries and in in his own grading business. In addition he was a home builder having built numerous houses.
Mr. Catrett’s focus was truly his family. As a father and grandfather, he encouraged his family to be productive and happy. Highlights with family were Christmas Vacation, winter trips to Yellowstone, time spent on the lake, hunting, and holidays.
Other than his parents, Mr. Catrett was preceded in death by a sister Jeanette Thomas; brothers, Ivison Catrett, Travis Catrett and Wiley Catrett.
Mr. Catrett is survived by his wife of 33 years, Phyllis Haslett Catrett; children, Richard E. Catrett “Ricky”, Lynn Davis (Spence), Sandra Catrett, William James Catrett “Billy”; sister, Judy Bullard (Glen); three grandchildren, Tonya Catrett Bowie (Canyon), Richard Catrett, Gene Davis (Shelby); three great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; mother of his children, Sue Donaldson of Mauk, GA. He will especially be missed by his faithful companion “Bubba”.
