Dr. Chappel, you will be well missed by many. When you look at black students at CSU, you did not see color, u saw opportunity for ALL! Thank you for dedicated services!

Dr. Chappell was one of God's angels and he wanted him back home.  He was one of the nicest teachers at CSU.  I will miss him.

I offer my deepest condolences to the family of Dr. Chappell. He was an incredible man, and I have never since met anyone who possessed such intelectual depth combined with such a real and authentic personality. As a student in his classes at CSU, he was an example of what I hoped to become. I was a student of Dr. Chappell's at CSU from 1982 through 1986, and then as an example of the kind of man he was, I visited him at his office as I was attending graduate school at Georgia College in the MPA program and Dr. Chappell still offered tremendous insight and technical assistance to me as I was completing a research paper on city-county consolidation. I would have never completed my undergraduate degree at CSU, and certainly not my MPA at GC if it were not for the incredible encouragement and positive example of Dr. Chappell. May God give peace to Dr. Chappell's family, and may he himself be never forgotten.

I was one of Dr. Chappell students. He was a great man. He will be missed.

I was so saddened to read of Bill's death in the Monroeville paper.  Bill and I were friends in the mid 60's when his father pastored our church. I have such fond memories of him and his family.  We used to ride around with him on Sunday afternoons in his "stomping ground" of Tunnel Springs.  He was so intelligent.  I was in awe of his knowledge about so many things! I regret not getting to know all of you through the years.  Our thoughts and prayers will be with you as you go through this very sad time in your lives.

Delane, My name is Ocie Ryland Robinson, Bill and I send our most sincere sympathy to you and your family in this very special time of grief.  
I have such fond memories of Bill as we grew up together as teenagers.  His father was the minister in our very small church in Repton.  Bill, Margaret and Bro. Bill was in our home most Sundays and we were like family for many years.  He was a joy to be around. We always were laughing as he had such stories to tell.  The history and knowledge he had swelled in his head always amazed my sisters and me.
We will remember him with fondness.
We will keep you and the children and grandchildren in our prayers.

Delane, Dr. Chappell was certainly a rare and extraordinary man.  You are a rare and extraordinary person yourself.  May God's peace and comfort be with you as the days, nights, hours and minutes go by.  I will always treasure the time I have spent with each of you.

I did not have the privilege of attending one of Dr. Chappell's classes until I was in graduate school, as a non-traditional student,  during 1990-92.  He was a wonderful professor and such an encourager to his students.  He will be deeply missed.

I will always remember him. He was a good professor with a great sense of humor. And he was always very easy to talk to when I had an issue while completing my program of study. He will be missed.

goodbye dr. chappell. i hope his family knows how many lives dr. chappell touched. i know i am a better person for his guidence during my time as one of his students. he will continue to live through his students and the knowledge they will pass down either by teaching or in everyday life experiences.

Bill was a colleague at CSU for many years.  One reason people are attracted to teaching is that we like to be around people with a certain quality of mind and a love of their subject.  Bill had an excellent, wide-reaching mind for political science, history, and literature. Sam, his and Delane's son, is our son's, Miles,  longest life friend. We will all miss Bill and are deeply grateful for what he gave of himself to his family, to our lives, and to his students.

He started out as my professor....... turned into a valuable mentor..... and finally into a friend.

Dr. Chappell was one of the best and most interesting professors that I had the privilege of knowing at Columbus State.  He was also a good friend to my father.  This is a true loss not only to Columbus State, but to Columbus as a whole.  My sincere condolences to the Chappell family.
