Funeral services will be held graveside at Linwood Cemetery at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, July 21st. The reverend Connie Pease Happell will officiate.
Mr. Hardegree was born in Talladega, Alabama on October, 21, 1932, son of the late William Bryan Hardegree, Sr., and Bobbie Barnard Hardegree. He graduated from The Baylor School in Chattanooga, TN., Vanderbilt University, and the University of Alabama School of Law.
He practiced law for 61 years with the law firms of Hatcher, Stubbs, Land, Hollis, and Rothschild; Hall, Booth, Smith, and served in the Judge Advocate General Corps in the US Army, Ft Benning, GA. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, served as President of the Columbus Bar Association and Muscogee County Law Library, ICLE Faculty Member, and on the boards of Pickett and Hatcher Educational Fund, American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Columbus YMCA and Girls Clubs, Columbus Country Club, Columbus Legal Aid Society, and was founding director of House of TIME. Mr. Hardegree was an avid sportsman and generously shared his enthusiasm for hunting and fishing, golf, and Alabama Football with his children and grandchildren.
He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by beloved mother Bobbie Barnard Hardegree, father William B. Hardegree, Sr., and brother Henry Barnard Hardegree.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Glenn Hardegree of Columbus; son, William Bryan Hardegree III (Melody) of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, and his daughters, Margaret Kasey of Friday Harbor, WA, ; Kathryn Johnson (Tommy) of Atlanta, GA, Glenn Morley (John) of Pomfret, Vermont; __ grandchildren, Eleanor Morley, Katie Frantz, Maggie Morley, Sarah Johnson Raymer (David), Will Frantz, Anna Johnson, Mattie Hardegree, and Wills Hardegree.
Bill lived a life characterized by honor, humility, and humor. He will be remembered for his sharp wit, patriotism, strong sense of community, abiding faith, his passion for The University of Alabama sports and his deep love for and devotion to his family.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to either The House of TIME in Columbus, Ga. or First Presbyterian Church, Columbus, Ga.
