
William Marion Johnson, Sr. August 3, 1925 - March 29, 2010 BOX SPRINGS, GA— William Marion Johnson, Sr., 84, of Box Springs, GA died Monday, March 29, 2010 at his home. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Thursday, April 1, 2010 in Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road Chapel, 4071 Macon Road. Pastor Chris Mitchell and Pastor Jay Bailey will officiate with interment in Parkhill Cemetery with military honors. Nephews of Mr. Johnson will serve as active pallbearers and grandsons of Mr. Johnson will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends this evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Johnson was born August 3, 1925 in Marion County, GA the son of the late George Cliff Johnson and the late Genie Kathryn Blythe Johnson. He was a lifelong resident of Marion and Talbot counties. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and served in the Pacific Theater. Mr. Johnson retired from Southern Bell and was the owner of W.M. Johnson Electrical Contractors. He attended Solid Rock Assembly of God Church and was a member of Telephone Pioneers Association of America.
Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa Johnson Wilkey and a grandson, William Brooks Wilkey. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Esther Sizemore Johnson; his children, Melanie Johnson Rutland and her husband, James of Juniper, GA, William Marion Johnson, Jr. and his wife, Lisa of Box Springs, GA, Melinda Johnson of Columbus, Madelyn Johnson Armstrong and her husband, Doug of Dallas, GA; sixteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; one brother, George Cliff Johnson, Jr. of Phenix City, AL; two sisters, Kathryn Snowden of Columbus and Rose Klein of TN.
