
Dr. William J. “Joe” Meadors, age 93, recent resident of Newnan, Georgia and former resident of Columbus, passed away on Monday, August 22, 2016 at his grandson’s home. Funeral services are scheduled at Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, Columbus on Thursday, August 25, 2016, 2 p.m. with Reverend Paul Thomas and Reverend Watson Mc Kemie officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 from 5-7 p.m.
Dr. Meadors, son of the late Dennis Luther Meadors and Octavia Braden Meadors, was born December 24, 1922 in Williamsburg, Kentucky. He was a veteran of U.S. Army where he served his country honorably in World War II. After his military service, he attended and graduated from Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Meadors practiced Podiatry, serving families in the Columbus area from 1949 until 1989. He was a member of Evangel Temple Assembly of God Church and a member of Gideon’s International.
Dr. Meadors was preceded in death by his wife, Myrdell Marie Rains and a daughter, Melanie Gay Swan. He is survived by one daughter, Patricia “Pati” Woodall of Newnan, Georgia; one sister, Marie Raines of Cleveland, Ohio; one grandson, Chris Woodall and his wife Tracy of Newnan, Georgia; four great-grandchildren, Kirsten, Haylei, Caytlin, and Christian Woodall; one great-great grandson, Kameron Hissom; several nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Evangel Temple Assembly of God Church, 5388 Veterans Parkway, Columbus, Georgia 31904 or Spring Harbor, 100 Spring Harbor Drive, Columbus, Georgia 31904.
