Barbara S. Fox

Barbara was the daughter of Merle and Norma Scudder of Madison, Indiana. She was born after her father was drafted into World War II in 1943. She would not see him until his return in 1945. After the war, they moved to Columbus where she became a 1961 graduate of Columbus High School where she met her husband, Bill Fox. She graduated from Indiana University with a degree in speech pathology and audiology in 1966 and was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. She then earned a master’s degree in special education and a Doctorate in School Administration from Indiana University in 1984, all while raising four sons.

Professionally, Barbara was principal of several Catholic schools and worked for the office of Catholic Education for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. She also taught special education for more than 15 years. She was a long-time proponent of special education and served on many local boards to help organizations educate and assist those with disabilities.

Over the years, she greatly enjoyed her longtime Columbus friends, bridge club friends and those she met on numerous quilting retreats. Her best work was on display when making baptismal gowns for her grandkids.

Her greatest achievement in life was her family. She enjoyed boat rides with her eleven grandchildren and was always willing to pet a wet dog who begged for attention after a swim. She was a devout Catholic and a long-time member of St. Bartholomew parish.

Barbara is survived by her four sons: Greg (Wendy) Fox, Bart (Christie) Fox, Matt (Natalie) Fox, and Pierre (Terra) Fox, 11 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, February 12, 2026 at Myers-Reed Chapel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 13, 2026, at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church with Rev. Nico Ajpacaja Tzoc as celebrant. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorials in Barbara's name are suggested to St. Bartholomew Catholic Church.
