Donald Ray Lawless

Donald R. Lawless, 79, of Columbus, died Thursday October 5, 2017 at Silver Oaks Health Campus. Don was a former police officer with Columbus Police Department, retiring as a Detective after 20 years of service. He was also an Investigator of Torte Claims with the Attorney General’s Office. Don was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and was a member of the church bowling team. He had a love of cars and belonged to the Hoosier Mustang Club. He also loved paint-by-numbers and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer R Lawless and Nellie M. (Robinson) Lawless Montgomery; brothers, Eugene and Thomas Lawless; and sister, Marianne Bennett. Surviving are his loving wife of 60 years, Martha L. Lawless; children, Donald R. (Lynn) Lawless, II of Indianapolis and Cindy K. (Keith) Bauer of Columbus; and grandchildren, Megan (Reid) Searles of Carmel and Molly Lawless of Indianapolis. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday October 9, 2017 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Teike officiating. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 – 11 a.m. Monday also at the church.
