Keith Moore died peacefully after a long illness Sunday, June 13, 2010 at the age of 87. He was surrounded by his family throughout his illness and death. Keith will be remembered by his family and friends for his faith, courage, love, kindness and generosity.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Hester Ann Beatty Moore and children Dr. Jeffrey Moore (Susan) of Evansville and Jennifer Manning (David) of Columbus; grandchildren Dr. Daniel Moore (Jaci) of Seattle, Ashley Manning of Indianapolis, David, Kristin, and Sarah Moore of Evansville and Michael Manning of Columbus and one great-grandchild. Also surviving are three brothers: Merril (Louise) of North Vernon, Loren (Ruth) Moore of Nashville and Ray (Janet) Moore of Cortland. He was the son of Harold and Elma Moore of Brown County.
Keith was born and raised in Brown County where he attended high school and played basketball and baseball. He enlisted in the Navy at the start of WWII and spent most of his time aboard the destroyer USS Morris in the South Pacific. He received nine battle stars and was cited for meritorious conduct after the Morris was hit by a kamikaze plane that killed 27 sailors.
After serving in the Navy he returned to Columbus where he resided the rest of his life. He worked for Cosco for 38 years before joining Hurco Corporation in Indianapolis in 1978 as executive vice president and chief operating officer and eventually president of Hurco International. He traveled frequently to Europe and Asia where he still has many friends. To honor Keith’s achievements, Hurco presented him with the first annual E. Keith Moore Distinguished Service Award in 1987. He retired from Hurco in 1999.
During his working career he served on the board of directors of the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association, Association for Manufacturing Technology (AMT) and National Center for Manufacturing Sciences (NCMS); and was a member of the U.S. Department of Commerce President’s Export Council/Subcommittee on Export Administration. He also served on the Board of Directors of two NASDAQ companies and one privately held company.
Keith was a charter member of North Christian Church where he remained active. He served as chair of the congregation, elder, trustee, Sunday school superintendent and was on the architecture committee responsible for the design and construction of the current building. He was a strong believer in community service in Columbus. Over the years he served on the board of The Commons, United Way, Junior Achievement, Boys Club, Foundation for Youth and Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce; and chairman of the Solid Waste Disposal Authority. He received the Outstanding Boss of the Year Award by the Columbus Jaycees in 1974. Other memberships have included Kiwanis, Jaycees, Harrison Lake Country Club, Scottish Rite, Shriners, American Legion and Masonic Lodge.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 15 at Hathaway- Myers Funeral Chapel on Pearl Street from 4:00 – 8:00 pm. The funeral is Wednesday, June 16 at North Christian Church at 11:00 am with Rev. Lanny Lawler officiating. Calling will start at 10:00 prior to the service. Entombment with Military rites by the Bartholomew County Color guard will be in Garland Brook Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana or the North Christian Church Memorial Fund.

E. Keith Moore The funeral for E. Keith Moore, 87, of Woodland Parkway, was conducted Wednesday at North Christian Church with Dr. Lanny C. Lawler officiating. Eulogies were given by his son, Dr. Jeffrey Moore, and his granddaughter, Ashley Manning. Scriptures were read by grandchildren, Kristin, Sarah and David Moore.
Entombment followed at Garland Brook Mausoleum with military rites conducted by Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard. Pallbearers were Ashley and Michael Manning, Dr. Jeffrey, Sarah, Kristin and David Moore. Honorary pallbearer was Dr. Daniel Moore.
Mr. Moore died Sunday, June 13, 2010, at Four Seasons Health Care Center.
Arrangements were made by Hathaway-Myers Chapel.
