Edith M. Whittington

Edith M. Whittington, 91, passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at Columbus Transitional Care. Edith was born December 8, 1927 in Columbus, Indiana, the daughter of Melvin Smith and Clara Roberts Smith. She married Goloun "Whitt" Whittington on November 19, 1946. Edith and Whitt loved flying to Colorado in their two-seater plane with Whitt as the pilot. They also Enjoyed spending weekends on their property in Brown County which was later sold to Coca-Cola to host company picnics. After working at Arvin's for 17 years, Edith retired and joined her husband in owning and operating Whitt's Small Engine Shop on 16th Street until Whitt passed away in 1999. Edith is survived by her sister, Peggy Smith Hamblen of Seymour, Indiana and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sister, Betty Smith Williamson; and her brother, Bobby Smith. A Funeral Service for Edith will be held Saturday, July 20, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Hathaway-Myers Chapel. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Hathaway-Myers is serving the Whittington family.
