Goldie Fern Mundy, 87, of Columbus, Indiana, passed away peacefully with her family surrounding her on May 10, 2025. Born on September 27, 1937, in Lawrence County, Indiana, to Charles and Lillie (Pitman) Simpson, Goldie was a beloved soul whose kindness and love touched all who knew her.
Goldie grew up in southern Indiana and married the love of her life, Kenneth Mundy, on February 6, 1954. The two settled in Columbus, where they built a life together and raised their family. Goldie was a homemaker for 35 years, devoting herself fully to her husband and children. Later, she entered the workforce and brought the same warmth and dedication to her roles at Osco Drug, CVS and Walmart over a span of 25 years. She loved meeting new people, and her friendly, welcoming nature made her a favorite—so much so that customers would wait in a long line just to be in Goldie’s lane. Her warm smile and friendly spirit left lasting impressions.
Above all, Goldie cherished her role as a mother and mamaw. Whether she was planning the most amazing vacation, throwing one of her famous kid-friendly New Year’s Eve parties, or simply being there to support her family, Goldie poured love into everything she did. She believed in making memories, in spoiling her grandkids just enough—and sending them home full of smiles and fun memories.
Goldie’s love, warmth, and selfless spirit leave behind a legacy that will never fade. She is survived by her children: Kenneth (Cindy) Mundy, Kelly (Jay) Miller, and her youngest daughter Kristina (Chris) Dunlap; her sister, Rosabelle Knight; her grandchildren: Chelsea (Nick) Banister, Kelsay (Joe) Lynch, Kaitlyn Galloway, Cailyn and Lynley Arnholt and Kiersten (Kiki) Dunlap; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Kenneth Mundy; her parents; her beloved granddaughter, Kimberly Mundy; and her siblings Leithal, Harold, Jesse, and Ralph Mundy, Ilene Richardson, Edith (Lucille) Kelly, and Bonnie Roberts.
A visitation and funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Myers-Reed Chapel, 3729 25th Street, Columbus, Indiana. Visitation will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with the funeral service to immediately follow, with Pastor Matthew Johnson officiating. Goldie will be laid to rest at Garland Brook Cemetery next to her husband and granddaughter.
Goldie’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew her and she will be deeply missed. She gave her love freely and fully—and that love will carry on through the generations she so dearly cherished.
