

Funeral services will be at noon Tuesday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark R. Teike officiating. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Calling will be from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church. Arrangements were made by Hathaway-Myers Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
Helen was born in Columbus on April 29, 1915, the daughter of John and Mary “Mayme” Weitendorf Lowe. She married Donald L. Mellencamp on Oct. 31, 1943 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
She was a graduate of Indiana University, where she was a Phi Beta Kappa and taught English at Columbus High School for 25 years.
Helen was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Christian Service Guild and was a Bible class leader. She loved literature, reading, service work, gardening, knitting, china painting and playing bridge. She was a wonderful wife, mother and friend.
She is survived by a daughter, Sarah (James) Davis, of Omaha Neb.; a son, Mark (Marnie) Mellencamp, of St. Joseph, Mo.; and grandchildren, Victoria (Jesse) Sitz, of Omaha and Caitlin and Lizzie Mellencamp, both of St. Joseph.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Nov. 1, 2010; a grandson, Jimmy Davis; and brothers, Alfred and Bill Lowe.
