Irene A. Carter

Mrs. Carter was a co-founder of Carter Sweeper Sales in 1976. She was a member of Central Heights Church of God and the Kentucky Club. She loved garage sales, flea markets and second hand stores.

The funeral was conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, February 17, 2014 by Myers-Reed Chapel at 3729-25th Street, Columbus, IN. 47203. Pastor Stan Loutner officiated. Calling hours were from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, February 16, 2014 and from noon Monday until service time. Entombment was in the Garland Brook Mausoleum in Columbus, IN.

Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or the American Cancer Society.

Born January 15, 1939 in Cramerton, NC, she was the daughter of the late Robert L. and Pauline Stilley Harris. She married James R. Carter May 6, 1955 in Sneedsville, TN. and he preceded her in death on March 13, 2011.

Survivors include a son, James M. (Denise) Carter of Hartsville, IN.; a daughter, Debra A. (Terry) Barkes of Edinburgh, IN.; a brother, Robert L. ( Jeannie) Harris Jr. of Ringgold, GA.; grandchildren, Jennifer Devening of Freetown, IN., Ronald Walker of Arizona, Christopher Barkes of Edinburgh, IN., Nicole Windland of Columbus, IN. and Joshua Carter of Chicago, IL.; and five great-grandchildren.

Along with her parents and husband, Mrs. Carter was also preceded in death by sisters, Elsie Hale and Louise Maitland.
