Monday morning March 25th Irma Ann Mayfield Glick finally laid down her burdens and passed over Jordan with her loving family in attendance. Irma first most and always was a loving and devoted wife of Marvin H. Glick. Theirs was a blessed marriage for sixty nine years , having exchanged wedding vows at the Union Christian Church parsonage in Johnson County on March 22, 1950. She was a loving mother to their four children Roger (Deanna) Glick, Deborah (Robert) Eikenbary, Bruce (Susan) Glick, and Sandra Dosterglick . As their family grew, she continued to care for and love their nine grandchildren, Benjamin Glick (Oregon) Daniel Glick (California), David (Kerri Shields) Glick of Chicago, Timothy (Amanda )Glick, Rebecca Eikenbary (Indianapolis), Thomas (Sara) Glick, Steven (Jaime Boas)Eikenbary of Chicago, Morgan Dosterglick (Indianapolis) and Quinn Dosterglick . They also gloried in their 6 Great-grandchildren Avery Glick, Delilah Glick, Elliana Glick, Caroline Glick, Jay Glick , Hunter Glick, and Henry Glick. Irma entered the world on May 5, 1930 in Franklin, Indiana. Her parents were, Edgar Coleman Mayfield and Mable (Hamblen) Mayfield. Irma’s brother and sisters were Betty (Dale) Betts both deceased, William (Norma, dec.) Mayfield, and Eunice (Royce, dec.) Low. Irma graduated with the class of 1949 from Ninevah High School. She performed proudly as a cheerleader for the NHS Bluebirds. She then attended a short course on Home Economics at Purdue University. As a member of the Rural Youth Organization, she attended a camp in Bartholomew County where she met Marvin, her future husband. While keeping hearth and home for her family, she continued to be a student of modern home making through her Spoon & Thimble Home Economics club where she served many terms as secretary. Irma joined Marvin as a member of the Newbern United Church. She was an active member of the United Methodist Women and served as secretary. She was a tireless volunteer, teaching Sunday School, and Bible School , and was one of the first camp counselors at Moneto Summer Camp. Her other club memberships included Eastern Star, Nautilus Literary Club (founded by her Grandmother Jesse Cunliff Mayfield ) and DAR where she served as Chaplin of the Joseph hart Chapter. She was a proud descendant of Virginia Militia volunteer Job Hamblen who pioneered into Bartholomew County in 1821. One of her other notable volunteer efforts was joining the physical therapy team for Diane DeHart in the 1970s. For her family, Irma was barber, chauffeur, seamstress, part time field hand, and creator of many a fine pie and outstanding yeast rolls. Oil painting, sketching and doodling were great passions Irma practiced for her own soul. A lover of music of varied genre, she could recite an amazing repertoire of lyrics, usually accompanied by some fancy foot work. She and Marvin enjoyed family vacations, world traveling, touring foreign farms, and thirty years of Florida sunshine and beach walks while shelling. After suffering a cerebral aneurysm in 1997, she soldiered on with her home and family duties until 2017 at which time Irma became an adored resident of Miller’s Merry Manor where she expired peacefully. She will be sorely missed by family, friends and care-givers. We, her family hope that others will find joy and strength in following her amazing example of tenacity and faith. Memorial Contributions can be made to Newbern United Methodist Church . Visitation will be at Myers –Reed Chapel on 25th Street in Columbus from 2-6 P.M. on Sunday, March 31.
