Born in Evansville on September 2, 1943, to Roy and Betty Bauman, Jane carried the values of her upbringing throughout her life. In 1961, Jane graduated from Rockport High School. After being a proud 1965 graduate of Evansville College (now the University of Evansville), she went on to earn her Master’s in Education from Indiana University. Jane dedicated her career to shaping young minds at BCSC. Though she paused her career to pour her love into raising her own children, her passion for being an educator eventually called her back to the classroom, where she remained an amazing role model and teacher for students at L. Frances Smith Elementary until her retirement in 2004.
Jane’s life was beautifully shaped by the things she loved most, and her faith guided her. She was a devoted member of First Lutheran Church. Jane carried the joy and peace found in her faith into the simple pleasures of life—the competitive spirit of a card game, the warmth of the Florida sun in Venice, and the unconditional love of her animals. Whether breeding and raising Standardbred horses or relaxing with her dogs, Jane was always happy when surrounded by the animals she so tenderly cared for.
On a blind date, Jane met Thomas Francisco. They married on January 12, 1968, beginning a beautiful journey that spanned over five decades. Though Tom preceded her in death in 2020, their love remained the foundation of the family they built together. Jane was preceded in death by her parents, aunts, and uncles. Her legacy of kindness and strength lives on through her devoted family: her daughters, Beth (Thomas Brueggemann) Guthrie, Rebecca (David) Shull, and Jenny (Curtis) Boggs; her brother, James Fred (Randy Lay) Bauman; her grandchildren, Zachary (fiancée Bailey Bishop) Guthrie, Madison (Thomas) Voigt, Samantha (Zachery) Wagoner, Daniel (Brooke) Boggs, Brody Shull, Sarah Boggs, Hunter Shull, and Abraham, Christian, Isabella and Gabrielle Brueggemann; and her great-granddaughter, Amelia Voigt.
A memorial service to celebrate the beautiful lives of both Jane and Thomas will be announced at a later date. In honor of Jane, memorial contributions may be made to the First Lutheran Church Landscaping Fund or Interim HealthCare Hospice.
