Jerry L. Schlotter, 82, of Columbus, passed away Friday, February 14, 2025, at Franciscan Hospice House, Indianapolis. He was born July 21, 1942, in Washington, IN, to Eugene and Anna Margaret (Copple) Schlotter. They preceded him in death.
Jerry was a US Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam era. He served in the Hell on Wheels 2nd armored division tank platoon as a driver and gunner. Jerry was a Journeyman Tool Maker at Cummins for 35 years. He was also a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church.
Jerry was a talented woodworker and made grandfather clocks, furniture, and rocking horses for his family. His family was his greatest accomplishment and he loved them dearly. He enjoyed gardening and fishing, and to those close to him, was famous for his homemade bread. Jerry dearly valued the friendships made throughout his lifetime and kept in close contact with them over the years. He was one of a tight-knit graduating class of 1960 from Washington Catholic High School.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Phyllis (White) Schlotter of Columbus; children, Rebecca Payton of Columbus, Karen (James) Stumpf of Whiteland, and Todd (Mikayla) Schlotter of Versailles; a brother, Kenneth Schlotter of Columbus; and grandchildren, Zoe Peters of Kansas City, MO, Matthew Stumpf of Indianapolis, and Abigail Stumpf of Cincinnati.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Patrick Lee Schlotter; son-in-law, Dan Payton; and sister-in-law, Ellen Schlotter.
The visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Myers-Reed Chapel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 21, 2025, at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church with Rev. Clement T. Davis as celebrant. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery.
