

Joe was born in Brownstown February 4, 1930, the son of Orlean Robert and Nora Margret Robbins Emerson. He married Mary Fox in 1952. She preceded him in death in December 1993. He then married Margaret Risley in 1997 and she survives.
Joe was active in Scouting and became an Eagle Scout in 1945. He graduated from Purdue University School of Pharmacy in 1952, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather to become a pharmacist. He opened Northside Drug Store in 1957 and was co-owner with his first wife, Mary, of Wind-Chime Ceramic Studio. He loved to golf at Harrison Lake Country Club and Fairfield, Tennessee. He was an avid Purdue fan.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret, of Columbus; a son, Terry Joe (Cindy) Emerson of Columbus; daughters, Jane (Dennis) Colvin and Susan Moody of Columbus; stepsons, Donald (Maria) Risley of Indianapolis and Richard (Julie) Risley of Columbus; grandchildren, D.J. Colvin, Amy (Zane) Hardin, Michael ( Meagan) Emerson, Christeen (Paul) Foley and Joey Moody; stepgrandchildren, Emma, Claire, Addie, Mathias and Sebastian Risley; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
