John D. “Dan” Dritt, Jr. 64, of Nashville, IN, a former Columbus resident, died at his home in Nashville, Indiana. He was born in Lafayette, Indiana April 21, 1954, the son of John D. Dritt, Sr. and Dorothy Jane Ball Dritt. Dan grew up in Columbus and started taking guitar lessons from Tom Pickett at a very early age. In Junior High School Dan and two close friends, Barry Johnson and Steve Linderman formed a band “The Dark Syde”. They became very popular at school dances and other venues. They stayed together all through High School until other responsibilities sent them separate ways. Dan lived in Florida for 17 years and he also toured with The Clover Willis Band, played with George Jones and Tammy Wynette and played with the “Byrde Castle Show”. They had several “Dark Syde” reunions in the last few years and in 2008 he moved to Nashville, Indiana where he and Barry still played together at the Winery. He is survived by a sister, Susan Dritt (Don) Doty of Scipio; daughter, Danielle Dritt of Lakeland, FL; 3 grandchildren. Services will be at a later date with private inurnment.
