John Herschel Fitzsimmons, 81, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2023 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. John was born December 23, 1942 in Clinton, Indiana to parents Herschel A. and Imogene McCool Fitzsimmons.
A 1960 graduate of Columbus High School, he served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged after two years. Following his discharge, John worked as a maintenance contractor for several years, primarily with Columbus Regional Hospital.
He was an avid Dale Earnhardt and NASCAR fan. He also enjoyed fishing and was very meticulous in keeping his truck clean.
John is survived by his son, Chris (Natasha) Fitzsimmons; his daughter, Nicole (Dane) Emenhiser; and his grandchildren, Conner Fitzsimmons, Cody Fitzsimmons, Kreigh Emenhiser, Jake Emenhiser, Callie Emenhiser, and Lainey Emenhiser.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Jerry Fitzsimmons and Gary Fitzsimmons.
In keeping with John's wishes, cremation will take place and he will be laid to rest during a private inurnment at the Garland Brook Cemetery Mausoleum.
