

Mr. Marshall was born in Columbus, IN. on February 06, 1927 the son of the late J. Frank and Cassie V. Ward Marshall.
He married Emma Lorene Lain in Columbus, IN. on February 20, 1955 and she survives.
Mr. Marshall attended Columbus Elementary and High School and the Indiana Business College.
He was a World War II United States Navy Veteran where he was a Radioman, Third Class.
Mr. Marshall worked for the former Weber Supply Company and he retired as an insurance agent in 1987 from the Prudential Insurance Company after 29 years of service. He then worked part-time at the former Tovey Shoe Store until the business was closed. He was last employed by Columbus Security.
Mr. Marshall was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church where he had been the Choir Director for 12 years. He was a member of the St. John’s Masonic Lodge #20 in Columbus, IN. for over 50 years, the Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons, the Columbus York Rite Bodies and the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge.
A percussionist since a teenager, he has been a member of the Columbus City Band for more than 67 years. He also played with the Gary Davis Music Makers Band for more than 20 years and the Red Behrman Combo for 6 years. He also played with two Columbus Symphony Orchestras, one for over 4 years. He was a former long-time member of the orchestra at the First United Methodist Church for 33 years.
The funeral service celebrating the life of Mr. Marshall was conducted at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at the Myers-Reed Chapel at 3729-25th St., Columbus, IN. 47203 with the Rev.’s Greg Brown and John McKay officiating. Remembrances were given by Mr. Marshall's son, Kenneth R. Marshall and others in attendance.
Calling hours were from 4:00 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. on Monday, July 12, 2010 and from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service on Tuesday.
A Masonic Memorial Service was conducted at 7:30 P.M. on Monday at the funeral home by members of the St. John’s Masonic Lodge #20.
Burial will be in the Garland Brook Cemetery with military graveside rites presented by members of the Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard.
Honorary pallbearers were Richard Depp, Ted Sharpe and Ron Duncan. Pallbearers were Tom Marshall, Tom and Hank Mueller, Josh Clements and Tim and Roger Huffman.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Columbus City Band or to the American Heart Association.

Along with his wife of 55 years, Mr. Marshall is also survived by two sons, Kenneth R. (Mindy) Marshall of Indianapolis, IN. and J. Thomas (Sandy) Benson of Columbus, IN.; a daughter, Barbara Crouch of The Villages, FL.; four grandchildren, Miranda (Jeremy) Tempest of Seymour, IN., Aaron (Raven) Gill and Lynsey Carmer both of Columbus, IN. and Bryan (Chasidy) Benson of Scipio, IN.; and ten great grandchildren, Elijah Tempest, Braydon and Calleigh Gill, Ayden and Emmerson Benson, Kaily and Lance Carmer and Alyssa, Jenna and Brandon Crouch.
Along with his parents, Mr. Marshall was also preceded in death by a daughter Rhonda Meyer; a grandson, Troy Crouch; and a sister, Rosalin Enochs.
Mr. Marshall loved and cherished his family deeply.
