John was born October 29, 1950 in Columbus, Indiana, the son of Ira and Estella (Murphin) Tinkey who preceded him in death.
John was a 1970 graduate of Columbus High School, had been a member of the First Christian Church and attended the Columbus Free Methodist Church. He had been a member of the Columbus chapter of the Future Farmers of America, Bartholomew County Rural Youth, the Indiana and Columbus Granges, and the South Central Indiana Christian Men’s Fellowship. He was a volunteer at the Salvation Army.
John had worked at the Columbus Grange and the Bartholomew County Pork Produces tents at the Bartholomew County 4-H Fair. He also worked alongside his parents on the family farm on Road 400 N. A bridge at that location is named Tinkey Bridge.
The funeral will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 22, 2026 at Myers-Reed Chapel. Calling will also be on Friday from 10-11 a.m. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
Survivors include many friends and neighbors.
