

She was born June 16, 1946 in Columbus the daughter of Pete and Mary Jean Hickey Harrell. Kathy was a 1964 graduate of Columbus High School and a 1968 graduate of Butler University with a major in music. She loved playing and listening to classical music and played trumpet for the Columbus Brass Quintet for several years. Kathy was a former elementary music teacher, an employee of IUPUC, The Indianapolis Star, Van Valer Law Firm in Greenwood and most recently as legal assistant for Sharpnack, Bigley, Stroh and Washburn Law Firm in Columbus. She and her husband lived for two years in Sarasota, Florida where she worked as an administrative assistant at the Ringling Museum of Art.
She married Bob Hynds July 23, 1994 in Gatlinburg, Tenn. She is survived by her husband, of Columbus; sons, Michael P. (J.J.) DeArmitt of Edinburgh and Joshua C. DeArmitt of Franklin; step daughter, Kelly (Joe) Brougher of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Logan, Christian and Jonah DeArmitt of Edinburgh, Abby and Noah DeArmitt of Franklin, Blair, Logan and Luke Brougher of Indianapolis; brothers, Timothy Wayne (Debbie) Harrell and Patrick Clifford (Lisa) Harrell both of Greenwood; sisters, LuAnn (Dennis) Craft of Wabash, IN and Paula (Jim) Sachleben of Columbus; aunts, Wilma Huffman of Columbus and Helen Harrell of LaFountain, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents; step daughter, Kerry Hynds.
Public visitation will be from 4 ~ 8 p.m. Thursday at Myers ~ Reed Chapel on 25th Street. A private funeral service will be conducted Friday at the funeral home with Justin White officiating. Burial will follow in Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to First Christian Church Building Fund.
