Born in Columbus, Kerry was a 1974 graduate of Columbus North High School and went on to continue his education studying accounting at Ivy Tech Community College. He spent much of his working life in the hospitality field as a night auditor at several hotels in Nashville and Edinburgh, Indiana.
A lifelong resident of Columbus, Kerry was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and enjoyed volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters.

A collector at heart, Kerry built up an impressive collection of record albums, CDs, and coins over the years. He was a movie buff, particularly fond of Abbott and Costello films. He also loved traveling with his family throughout the Midwest, exploring new places.
Kerry is survived by his brother, Kevin E. Thompson and Kevin’s partner, Ramille A. Belmonte of Lebanon, OH; as well as Kerry’s close friend, Linda Gaskill of Columbus, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Betty (Cook) Thompson and M.E. “Jiggs” Thompson.
